Professor Sujeewa S. Lekamge, the founder and leader of the Regency Residential Educational Institute, stands as a pioneer of a modern educational revolution aimed at the holistic academic and personality development of students. Under his leadership, the Regency Institute has evolved beyond a mere teaching center; it has become a unique network of residential schools that turns students' dreams into reality.
An alumnus of Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, Professor Lekamge entered the Faculty of Science at the University of Peradeniya, where he completed his degree with the highest academic honors. With decades of experience as a specialist in Chemistry, he is an educator who has laid the foundation for the educational journeys of thousands of students across the island. His significant contribution to the private tuition sector over several decades has helped students not only in mastering their subject syllabi but also in building the self-confidence necessary for their future success.
While serving as a Chemistry lecturer, Professor Lekamge keenly observed the extreme competitiveness of the current education system and the mental pressure it exerts on students. He firmly believed that this exam-centric pressure, which often stifles the creativity and inherent skills of children, needed to change. Born from this conviction, the "Regency Boarding School"—Sri Lanka's first residential school designed for students to achieve high academic results with discipline and without fear or stress—was established.
Having served as the first Principal of the Regency Institute, and currently acting as the CEO and Director of the entire Regency School Network, he remains steadfastly committed to the success of our students.
